Birth Note:    He was the son of General David Rhodes (Rodes) and half-brother of
General Robert E. Rhodes, of Jackson's Corps (and afterwards of Jubal
S. Early's Corps), one the most distinguished officers in the Army of
Northern Virginia. A civil engineer, Lafayette was a City Engineer
for Lynchburg.
