Cousin Ron's Photo Gallery

William M. Davies (1816-1887) or William L. Davies (1806-1887)

In the Davies Family Tree, William Davies' middle initial is an "M", and his birth year is 1816,
but his headstone (photo below) shows the middle initial "L" and says that he was born in 1806.
Cousin Ron remembers that William's grandson thought that the middle initial was "L" and
suggests that the common abbreviation for William ("WM") was misinterpreted as "W. M.".

William Davies was known as "Uncle Tough". As a Circut Judge in Osage County Missouri,
he tended to give out stiff punishment and hence the nickname given by the local kids.

John William ("Jack") Davies (1901-1989)

An avid photogtapher, Jack Davies was the grandson of Judge Davies,
the son of James Henry Davies, and also Ron Wallin's grandfather.

The first six photos below show Jack as a baby (1901), as a boy (about 1910), as a young boxer
(about 1920), with his baby Shirley (1928) and young tomboy Shirley (1932), and finally with his
grandson Ron Wallin (Shirley's son) and his camera (to which he was "attached at the hip").

The photo by the Missouri River was taken in 1921. Jack was a great outdoorsman who loved both hunting and fishing.
The photo of his headstone was taken shortly after Alice died (1988). He died the next year. Notice the gun on the stone.

The photo of Jack Davies with the
Kansas City Scout  was taken soon after the dedication of
the statue in 1922. The recent photo shows the growth of the city that "old Sioux has watched".

The four photos above show Jack cleaning the Remington Model 722-300 Savage rifle in 1957, Ron with the
"Jack Davies Spirit Buck" taken with that same rifle in 2009, plus two more of Shirley (about 1931 and 1938).

The Finck Family (about 1905)

Frank and Joe were brothers of James H. Davies and sons of William M. Davies and Susan Carter.
These two Davies brothers "took off to Texas to hunt Buffalo and start a railroad".

Headstone in Mount Aeriel Cemetery,
Linn, Osage Co, Missouri

William Landon Davies is son of Lula and William M. Davies. Paulina A. McDaniel Davies was his wife.

Susan Rosena Goodman Davies

The Goodman family was also one of the first families of Virginia and huge landowners
in Amherst Co. They were friends and relations to the Davies and also moved to Osage Co,
Missouri and have a few other Goodmans that married into the Davies clan down the road.

Susan Goodman married James Henry Davies (no photo available), the son of Judge Davies and the father of Jack. Ron writes: "Based on old family stories, we always had an idea that my great grandfather was a bit of a loose cannon, not a real career type of guy. We had heard that maybe he had hung himself after returning from one of his disappearing acts to find his wife had gotten sick and died. I started digging around (in the Missouri records) and found his death certificate (PDF). It turns out that it was a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. William Landon Davies (his half-brother) was the one who reported the death". Ron's great grandparents' home in Missouri is shown below.
